Lunchbox krispie treats are upscaled to an extravagant level with layers of milk chocolate and silky caramel in this easy no-bake recipe.
2 cups (one 12 oz. bag) milk chocolate chips
One 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
14 soft caramel pieces, unwrapped
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, at room temperature
10 cups (one 12 oz. box) puffed rice cereal, divided
10 cups (about two and a half 10 oz. packages) mini marshmallows
12 tbsp. (1–1/2 sticks) salted butter, divided
Grease a 9 X 13-inch pan with nonstick baking spray. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, melt milk chocolate chips in a microwave for 1 minute on high power. Stir. Melt in 30 second increments until smooth. Set aside.
In another medium bowl, melt sweetened condensed milk, caramel pieces, and 1/2 cup butter for 1 minute on high power. Stir. Melt in 30 second increments until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
In a large bowl, melt 4 cups mini marshmallows and 6 tbsp. butter for 1 minute on high power. Melt in 30 second increments until smooth. Stir in 5 cups puffed rice cereal until evenly combined. Press evenly into the greased pan using a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Spread melted chocolate onto cereal. Pour caramel mixture onto the chocolate layer. Sprinkle 1 cup mini marshmallows over caramel layer. Let chill in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes to set.
Make second layer of cereal treats by again melting 4 cups mini marshmallows and 6 tbsp. butter for 1 minute on high power. Melt in 30 second increments until smooth. Stir in 5 cups puffed rice cereal until evenly combined. Press evenly onto the caramel layer using a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Cut into bars.
