About

Hi everyone! I’m Erin Thomas, obsessive baker, wandering adventurer, and recipe mastermind of gloveboxeats.com. Here you’ll find a mash-up of road trip shenanigans, unusual destinations, and the recipes inspired by these adventures.

Thanks for stopping by! We all have reasons for doing things right? I started this blog because of my Great-Grandma and a duct-taped binder containing her favorite recipes. These she typed and wrote down for her two daughters. While the recipe for pie pastry really hasn’t changed much, the world since the days of Great-Grandma’s childhood in 19th century Wisconsin has. Stories from this time, of traveling fish-wagons, rendering lard for soap, and warming up by a kitchen log-fire on cold winter mornings, among others, accompany each chapter. Without Great-Grandma’s knack for writing, these tales would otherwise be lost to time.

It’s in this manner…stories with recipes, recipes with stories…that my 21st century digital binder is written. (And the fact, I never can remember where my family’s favorites are when I want them.)

Just like Great-Grandma’s yellowed and stained binder, most recipes will be served with a side of folklore, history, or comedic antics. You never know what to expect…whether it’s from my childhood in a national park, or a forced-family-fun adventure with The Hubby, Son A and B.

Say cheese!

I’m a self-taught, home-baker, who loves to cook tasty food for the people I care about. The recipes I share should be easy to follow, using ingredients from most local mega-marts. If not, I’ll share a substitution. (Being raised 70 miles away from the nearest large city, and disliking grocery shopping has it’s advantages, right?)

Gloveboxeats.com is my way of sharing what’s percolating in our kitchen and remembering family adventures baked with them. Let me know how the recipes turn out for you. Ask questions. Tag a photo of what you make with #glovebxeats and share your road trip adventures. I hope you enjoy this ride and are inspired to bake your own memories!
