The BEST Shower Cleaner Spray

Travelers everywhere know the reward for a long day of hiking, biking or bobbing along in a car is a comfortable place to put your feet up! But the anticipation of what awaits beyond the closed hotel/motel/cabin door can be nerve-wracking. After swiping the credit card-like room key, will the room be refreshingly clean and fresh, or disappointedly shabby and smelly?

If you’ve read this blog, you might be familiar with a previous post featuring a delicious, decadent Bourbon Praline Pound Cake, and a disastrous stay in a Kentucky motel. Sadly, that motel room was shabby and smelly. One I wish I had brought a sprayer full of this homemade Shower Cleaner Spray to use on!

This post isn’t like my usual, where I share recipes for mostly everything and anything baked. But I have to share this recipe with you! And it came from my Mom, so it must be good!

Since the ‘Rona reared its foul head, bleach or Lysol products are rare, and cost a premium when found. I completely understand today’s need for bleach’s breath-taking, ultra-clean smell. But I kinda need to breathe when going into tight bathroom spaces. Whew! There’s nothing like getting gassed by a chlorine cloud in your loo!

The beauty of this homemade Shower Cleaner Spray is it’s made with all-natural ingredients you can easily find in your local mega-mart…lemon juice, white vinegar, and Dawn dish soap. And it works! Fabulously well!

Lemon juice and white vinegar contain natural acids to break down soap scum and hard water scale left on shower doors and curtains. The lemon juice and white vinegar also leaves behind a fresh smell that doesn’t stain. Dawn dish soap works to remove the oily residue left behind by your, well…behind. And if wildlife experts trust Dawn to make sea critters squeaky clean, you can trust it will help keep your shower squeaky clean!

Using the recipe below, just pour everything into a spray bottle, shake gently and spray away! We use this Shower Cleaner Spray three or four times a week in all of our showers. To use, spray the shower walls and door/curtain down when you first get in. The warm mist, as you’re scrubbing down, helps the spray do it’s job breaking down soap scum and grime. When you’re ready to towel off, your shower will be sparkling and fresh-smelling. Use a squeegee after each shower to prevent scale from forming too. That’s it! You could also use this spray to clean sinks and vanities.

After years of using, I discovered the hard, and costly, way that professional grade spray bottles work better and last longer. The nozzles don’t clog up easily or quit altogether. ZEP makes a powerful 32 ounce version, costing only a few dollars at your nearest hardware store. There’s also space on the bottle to write this great recipe on when you need to refill it!

Hopefully you’ll find shower success with this homemade Shower Cleaner Spray too! Shower on!

(Note: Please remember to thoroughly clean your shower periodically with your preferred bathroom cleaner. We used this homemade Shower Cleaner Spray successfully on showers lined with sealed tile and grout, and fiberglass coatings. If you are concerned about marble or granite, please test in a inconspicuous location.)
